About
Xtreme Step
So you love hip-hop and old-school funk
music but you can't find a class that offers both. So what are you
going to do? Take Xtreme Step. This step/hip-hop hybrid is the hottest
thing in town.
Created by Izett Barnett, Xtreme Step
feels like more of a club scene than a class, with a DJ mixing the
latest beats while Izett raps out commands on the mic. The music and
choreography create a vibe where improvisation is common and the
competition is fierce, but friendly. It's loud, it's funky and it is a
cool way to throw more variety into your cardio mix.
Izett started taking step classes back
in 1992 as a way to keep in shape and relieve stress after work. He
soon became bored with many of the classes that he took. The ingredient
that was missing in his classes was the style of music that was being
played. Since he could not find a class that played R&B, hip-hop or
funk, he decided to learn to teach so he could fully enjoy his own
workout. The rest is history.
